2020 Masters Recap - Thursday

Day 1 is in the books (sort of) with some surprises and a lot of morning rain. Tiger doubters beware, we have a fun weekend ahead of us.

Ceremonial Tee Off

Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player kicked off this years festivities with a ceremonial tee off, and quite honestly both looked pretty darn good on the tee box for their age.

Rain

Dark clouds and 3/4 of an inch of rain rolled in early in the day causing a delay and some interesting conditions on the greens. It certainly allowed players to take some shots they normally wouldn't throughout the remainder of the round.

Bryson got off to a slow start and was spraying his driver for a while, albeit on some bombs. He got into a little trouble on 13 when he put one into the woods, and then proceeded to hit his next into some bushes.

At the end of the day he wound up -2 and T22 so he's still in the game.

Tiger

The GOAT posted a first round 68 which is his best first round at the Masters. He probably benefitted from a rainy day one and half the group not finishing, but he looked incredibly confident and in control in a bogey free round.

Justin Thomas

When play got suspended due to darkness it ended JT's heater. He will kick off the second day by finishing his round that he left at -5 thru 10 holes.

Paul Casey

Casey finishes day 1 atop the leaderboard with a first round 65 and looked great on the course. We will see if he can keep this up throughout the weekend.

Nightfall Closes it Early

With the rain delay and and a Fall sunset, there were 44 players still on the course when play was halted. This should mean a lot of movement on the leaderboard for day 2 with the completion of these rounds as well as another.

We will see you for what will surely be an exciting day 2!
